To all who handcraft these fine stoves-

Several years ago a friend told me about Woodstock Soapstone stoves.  He gave me your video and I knew I had to have one.  Although I could not afford one at the time I told another friend about them and he bought one in 2005.  Once I saw my friend's stove, we decided that when I bought mine we would drive from Kansas and pick it up.  After several years of saving my wood chopping money and pinching pennies we set the date.  July 23rd 2010.

After trying to explain to his wife why he needed to leave town for five days to pick up a stove that could be shipped to my hometown for a hundred dollars, we headed out on a great mission, a Road Trip if you will, for the Holy Grail...
After driving twenty three hours straight we arrived in Saratoga Springs NY for the night. Upon arrival at a little roadside hotel, I was looking forward to a cold beverage and a soft bed.  As I began to pay for the room I realized I'd lost my wallet, credit cards, money, etc...  I was stranded in NY with no money and no stove.  Luckily for me, Jay found it under the seat.  After stopping by the local watering hole I laid down but couldn't sleep. It was like Christmas Eve, or maybe it was Woodstove Eve.  I finally dozed off with dreams of watching a fire in my new stove.

The next morning I awoke ready to make my pilgrimage to the holy place of all stoves.  After packing my stuff and downing a few Yoohoo's (Chocolate Pop), I was ready to go.  The closer Jay and I got the worse the anticipation got.  My foot was tapping, my palms were sweaty, and my throat was dry.  As my Garmin directed me in from the north I was watching as the distance became shorter and shorter.  Finally like the sun through the clouds on a rainy day, there it was, Woodstock Soapstone Stoves Co.  As I pulled into the parking lot and shut off my truck Jay and I looked at each other and said, we just drove 1500 miles one way in 22 hours for this.

We entered the building and were greeted by Mike and Penny.  It was as if they already knew me or at least acted like they truley cared about my business and this great quest we were on.  After looking around the show room for a few minutes Mike took us in the assembly area and introduced us to the works.  It was exactly what I thought it would be.  Local folks using their hands to craft the finest wood stoves around.  After the tour we were directed to the loading dock to pick up my stove, my moment had arrived....  There it was ready to load and ready for a 1500 mile trip to its final place of rest.

I was a happy, happy man that day.  Mike helped out by taking a few pictures and we were
off.  I have since brought the stove into my house and am waiting for Fall.  Thank you Woodstock employees for helping me obtain something so special to me.  I will retire my old stove this year.  I'm looking forward to building a fire and thinking of my great expedition to obtain it.  Listed below are the statistics for my stove.

2984 miles round trip
13 States
450 dollars in diesel fuel
1000 dollars in hotels, food, beer, Yohoo's and bologna sandwiches.
And five days that two friends completed one of the greatest missions of their lives that nobody else understood.  Middle age makes people do funny things I suppose.

Best Wishes to you all,

Jason A. Grems
